Just recently, a class nine student was allegedly gang raped by four security personnel who were in their combat dresses in Koraput and now a college student has been gang raped by six men in Ganjam district of Odisha.
As per police, the girl is a student of Plus-Three Second Year and she belongs from Bhanjanagar of Ganjam. On Monday, she was visiting the Budhakendu Thakurani Temple in Gangapur with her fiancé and while returning they both were stopped by six men who beat her fiance and took her to a nearby cashew jungle and allegedly raped her. The police have arrested six men on the suspicion of their involvement in this case.
The unfortunate incident came into public notice when a complaint was filed by the girl and her fiancé, the victim said,
“I had gone to the temple with my fiance to offer prayers. When we were returning, six people dragged me to the nearby forest and thrashed my fiance. (Each) one of them raped me, whereas others filmed it.”
The fiance stated,
“We were returning from the temple after having darshan at around 3.30 p.m on Monday. Six persons came on two bikes and intercepted us. They thrashed me and snatched away our mobile phones from us. They took her to a nearby forest and raped her.”
This is what the Ganjam Superintendent of Police, Ashish Singh, said:
“All the six have been arrested and will be produced in the court. We are investigating the case.”
A case has been filed in the Gangapur Police Station and the accused and victim will be undergoing a medical examination, after that accused will taken to court, as told by Utkal Keshari Dash, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Bhanjanagar).
However, the culprits of Koraput gang rape are still free and out in open, so police may now take the victim to the nearby camps of BSF and CoBRA, in case she is able to recognize the accused.
